Saturday Morning Led Practices

Once a month you can start your weekend with a yoga session at Nelson Iyengar Yoga, by attending our Led Practice on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 am.

In these sessions you will be guided through a general sequence of asanas without a lot of detailed instruction. We will all do the practice together. This is a quieter, more introspective yoga experience than a regular class, and offers you a chance to take ownership of your practice in a more personal way.

Bookings are not required for these sessions.
Cost is the same as a regular class: either use your concession card, or pay casual $15

Regular yoga practice can increase ease of movement, calmness of mind, general energy levels, plus bring other benefits like healthy digestion and sleep. Our beginners course is a great place to start, or resume, your yoga journey. The course will suit someone who has never done any yoga, or who's done a little, or has had a long break from it.

The upcoming course will run for 8 successsive weeks. Each week we will cover a few more of the basic asanas (poses). Each session is 1 hr and 15 mins long, and includes a 5-10 minute relaxation at the end. The teaching is gradual and progressive with plenty of demonstration and explanation. You will be introduced to the principles of alignment, and learn how to use various props (blocks, straps, blankets) for extra support where there is stiffness or injury.


This first course for 2018 will start on Wednesday 7 February 2018, 5:30-6:45 pm.

Friday morning self-practice sessions

Nelson Iyengar Yoga is open for early morning self-practice on Fridays between 6:30-8:30 am.
If you would like to do your own practice with the company of other experienced practitioners, you are welcome to come (and go) any time during that two-hour period. The studio equipment will be available and the room will be heated in cooler weather. $5 per person for use of the equipment and heaters.
You don’t need to book in — just show up!

Weekend workshop with Monica Haar, August 2-4, 2013

In August 2013, Nelson Iyengar Yoga will again host a weekend workshop with senior Iyengar teacher, Monica Haar. Moni's first Nelson workshop in November 2012 was a great success, and we are very pleased to welcome her back.
Moni is director of the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Auckland, and also runs teacher training programmes in Auckland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Teachers and experienced students (practicing Salamba Sarvangasana and Sirsasana) are invited to take this opportunity to deepen their yoga practice under her expert guidance.
